Then she explains how to chart your patterns and make a sampler to develop your gauge and determine the size thread and needle you will want to use. Pattern mapping techniques are covered in detail with several examples of original shawls and how the designer translated their inspiration to a knit-able pattern. All covered stitches are explicitly shown from the point of view of the knitter, using high contrast threads. Sandy takes you through the design and pattern mapping process on her project shawl, "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend". Finally Sandy and her helper show you ways to display and wear your knitted lace shawls.
